Pizza Kat T-shirt

Back in 2022, the fine folks at Pizza Kat Pizza in Portland, OR reached out and asked if they could use the drawing I did of a street cat on an abandoned motorcycle in Athens, Greece for a small run of t-shirts for their shop staff and patrons. Well, after a change of address and some confusion, the shirt finally landed in my hands. 

I drew this back in 2016 and I love that people still reach out to me about it. It's probably one of my favorite drawings that I've done and it's pretty fun to see it on a t-shirt after just living on a page in a 7yr old sketchbook.

The shirts are sold out but if you do live in Portland, OR I recommend you stop by their spot anyways because I see their pies on instagram all the time and they look damn good.

 

"Character and Narrative" Opening August 16th

I'm still here internet! Been deep in the studio cave but here are some sneak peeks of some projects I'll hopefully be able to show in full sooner rather than later.

Draggin Ass

Worked this one up a couple weeks ago in between my monthly Soul Clap poster project. I have this tendency to want to fill the entire image with detail and color so every now and then I try to restrain myself with illustrations like this one. I have this dream idea of the perfect illustrations that I want to make and I feel like this is somewhat closer to that idea. Not subject matter wise but, balancing tight and loose and positive and negative.

Down on the corner

Still keeping the dream alive with the bodega cat drawings. I'm trying to shake it up a little bit so things don't get too repetitive here. In college I was turned on to Ronald Searle's cat books and later on I noticed Ralph Steadman had done one as well and I'm pretty sure Edward Gorey placed quite a few cats in his illustrations. There are probably a bunch of other illustrators I'm not aware of that have some affinity for drawing them as well. I guess illustrators and cats just have some weird, magical bond, or maybe it's just that we appreciate a pet that lets us work as long as we please.

ATM INSIDE

Thanks to a friends instagram account, I had this idea while traveling in Europe and knew when I got back home I had to get it in with the other 5 bodega cats I had done last year. I have this dream that there's going to be hundreds of these paintings when I die and they are going to morph and evolve into something completely different from the very first painting. Not that I wanna devote myself to painting neon cats my whole life but I do really enjoy doing these. Here's number 6: ATM INSIDE

The raw beauty and wild cats of Greece

Greece, baby!!! The third to last stop on our odyssey and Athens had some gems in store for me. There are so many wild cats roaming the city and some of them aren't afraid to come up to you and be your new best friend. If our trip back was as easy as a few hours in a car, there was one cat in particular we probably would have brought home with us. This guy on the motorcycle was not the one but he definitely knows how to put on a show. He saw me at work and decided to make my drawing of a beat up bike into a great drawing of a beat up bike.

Like I said above, these Greek cats know how to make a picture really shine.

The final bodega cat

The final bodega cat is done. Nothin' like knockin' it out with some cold beer. I'll put up some neat and clean scans and process sketches in the next week or so, after I gorge myself on some Thanksgiving snacks. Crank some Alice's Restaurant Massacre until then!

Neon Update

It's been feeling considerably quieter on the Blogger front this past year and more so in the past few months. Projects have me tied up a little more these days so I wanted to give everyone a sneak peek at what's going on before a couple months go by without any updates. NEON CAT SIGNS is what's going on! I've been wanting to do this project for the better part of a year and finally got the time to attack. Here are the first two in the series of 5. Enjoy.

My Little One

My main man passed away a few weeks ago and I miss him. I created this portrait so that when I'm old and tired, I can sit in front of my fireplace and cheers his portrait that rests on the mantle while I sip on fancy whiskey and smoke expensive cigars. Or, maybe it'll lay next to me, in my cardboard box, my only possession left in this world, keeping me company in a dark, cold alley.
