"Signs on The Road" #7 - 9

Recently wrapped up a few more pieces in the "Signs on The Road" series. I was originally thinking I would only make 6 but, the world keeps turning and I keep writing down little observations so I'm thinking this will just be an ongoing series until I'm absolutely tired of making these. I can't claim credit for one of these because I pulled it from Neil Young's "Sail Away" one of my favorite songs off Rust Never Sleeps. It felt like doing a cover song that fit in with the concept of an album I'm working on.

Sunday Soul Scream 2022

Hoo doggie, my eyes almost melted out of my skull while working on this one..this started out as 2 people dancing on the roof to this full blown party you see before you. Jonathan Toubin is bringing the Sunday Soul Scream back to Our Wicked Lady for summer 2022 and we really wanted to remind people about the late dancing that goes down on the roof every Sunday night so we dug through close to 50 photos from past parties and I cherry picked my favorite poses to sell this baby. Who knows, if you've ever been to a Soul Scream, YOU may be tucked in there somewhere. On a side note: I'm realizing more and more that I really like to personify the sun and moon in my illustrations and even create a narrative between the two. Sometimes they are bitter rivals but this time around things seem ok between them. 

The party kicks off this Memorial Day weekend and continues every Summer Sunday up to Labor Day. Be sure to check in with Our Wicked Lady and the Sunday Soul Scream instagram accounts for updates on the weekly rotating cast of bands and surprise guest dj's. Details and process pics below.

 

Showtime at The Grayhaven Motel!

Ok, folks. My show is officially up at The Grayhaven Motel in Ithaca, NY from now until Nov. 30th! The actual opening night shindig will take place on Nov. 5th from 5-8pm. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend but please swing by anyways. Opening night will be in conjunction with First Fridays in Ithaca so there'll be plenty of other shows going on in the area for you to bounce around to. 

Masks will be required while you are in the building no matter your vaccination status so please be respectful and throw one on while you're there. There are some bonus viewing hours listed on the site as well in case you can't making the opening or the afternoon viewing times. Details on all that stuff right here --> Grayhaven Motel

Virtual Workshop Time

Touchstone Center for Crafts has just released their schedule for the Spring/Summer 2021 virtual workshops and I'm there in the mix with my class "Creating Narratives in Portraiture". The class will be on April 20th from 6:30-8:30pm and there is a complete list of materials for anyone that would like to work along with me as I explain how I create my pieces and some techniques that I use. Swillburg

Recent commission all wrapped up for the ultimate fan of American Graffiti, The Outsiders, classic horror movies, sunsets, and a triangular shaped 20 block neighborhood in Rochester, NY. Really hoping to stop by the Highland Park Diner and eat too much food and drink too much coffee in a hopefully near post-covid future.

Unfortunately, The Cinema Theater announced in February that they will be closing their doors indefinitely. Hoping someone jumps in and saves the day, especially since they've been a functioning movie theater since 1914, one of the longest running theaters in the United States.

It's Comic Time!

Nothing too crazy here. Just stuff I scribble down at the end of my days to help me release and feel better about my frustrations with day jobs, clueless assholes, and the deep down driving force behind our technological advancements.

I Won't Be Needing You Anymore.

This triptych is part of my body of work currently hanging up in "Character and Narrative" at the Foothills Art Center. I made this series a couple years ago and had no outlet for it other than it was something I had been thinking about and wanted to make. I've been really fascinated by my/our love of the outlaw/classic male and moving ahead with the things we love about them and leaving behind the less than savory aspects. I'm also very interested in how they navigate their way, clumsily, through this changing world. Show runs until October 20th.
