Neon Christmas

It's that time of year again and I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks to everyone who has supported me and my work this year. I've had some great opportunities and it's meant a lot to me. I'm gonna leave you with some Christmas tunes, or ones that have Christmas in the title, that are personal favorites of mine so, spike that egg nog, kick back and enjoy!

See y'all in 2016!

Effigy Collective

I think I'm in the clear to talk about this now so here's the deal; Some of my old buddies from Ithaca, NY have been hard at work getting some recipes together and are almost ready to launch their very own brewery, EFFIGY BREWING. They've asked me, and another good friend, ARLO CHAPPLE to help contribute to look of the brand. So far I've done some sample labels for the Little Death Saison and The Jitters. Give their website a look, buy a shirt, and hopefully you'll be able to try some of their hard work soon.

The Complete Bodega Cat Neon Signs

#1 Hot Coffee - Cigarettes

#2 Newspaper - Magazines

#3 Fresh Meat - Cold Cuts

#4 New York Lotto - Play Inside

#5 Cold Beer & Sodas

Well, there it is, the first wave of neon bodega cat signs. This series was created in a very busy month due to a deadline for show submissions but, it was definitely one of those, "I felt totally crazy but had a great time doing it." Now, let's all go back in time to the end of September and look at where these babies were before I really dove in. Thanks to all those rainy nights when the neon signs really show off in store windows and in the reflections on the wet streets. Also, big thanks to Thomas E. Rinaldi's blog New York Neon.

The final bodega cat

The final bodega cat is done. Nothin' like knockin' it out with some cold beer. I'll put up some neat and clean scans and process sketches in the next week or so, after I gorge myself on some Thanksgiving snacks. Crank some Alice's Restaurant Massacre until then!

Neon Update

It's been feeling considerably quieter on the Blogger front this past year and more so in the past few months. Projects have me tied up a little more these days so I wanted to give everyone a sneak peek at what's going on before a couple months go by without any updates. NEON CAT SIGNS is what's going on! I've been wanting to do this project for the better part of a year and finally got the time to attack. Here are the first two in the series of 5. Enjoy.

Fake wood on the dance floor

New Soul Clap and Dance Off poster with a young Etta James laid against some fake wood-like background. This one was a lot of fun to work on. Especially when laying down the background. All the fun goes down on October 17th from 12-4AM at Brooklyn Bowl. Some process pics below.

The Soul Clap is Back!

The Clap is back!!! And NO, it's not the kind that that sweet little thing from your wild summer back in '81 gave to you. This is the Soul Clap and Dance Off hosted by Jonathan Toubin. It's all going down at Brooklyn Bowl, Saturday, September 19th. And, if I'm not mistaken, along with guest djing, Mikal Cronin will be playing a set before all the dancing begins.

Can't Believe This Actually Happend

A few months back, I was contacted by The New York Times about the a-frame drawings I had been doing at Gimme Coffee and that they were interested in including me in an article with other people who had been doing similar work for cafes and bars. Yes, you read that right. Little ol' me, and other fellow practitioners of the trade, were actually getting enough attention from our sidewalk sign drawings to get picked up for an article by the New York Times! Welp, here it is, people:

And, in honor of this occasion, which I still can't believe happened, I'm going to include some of what I consider 'The Greatest Hits'. Thanks again to Marisa Meltzer for interviewing me!

For this last one, I have to include an inked version I did, because I'm stupid and didn't take a photo of my Brewed in the USA one. I can't believe that shit. Of all the ones I neglected to take a photo of, it was of one inspired by a true hero of mine.

Who knows what's next. T-shirts?
