Sunday Soul Scream Summer 2023 Edition

Summer is approaching so that means another round of Jonathan Toubin's Sunday Soul Scream at Our Wicked Lady in East Williamsburg's industrial zone is upon us.

We bounced back and forth between using these party frogs and King Kong but the frogs just looked like too much fun to pass on. Pulled some inspiration from mid-century design on hotel bar matchbooks while still keeping it recognizable as my Soul Scream poster work. I'm always battling with my desire to make these with a more minimal palette every year (2-3 colors max) and my inevitable slide into using 5, 6, 7 + colors. It's just the battle I go through with wanting to render something completely and create a striking graphic image.

Anyways, the party kicks off on Sunday May 28th and goes on every summer Sunday up to Sept 3rd. Be sure to follow the Sunday Soul Scream instagram to see what bands and guests dee jays will be appearing every Sunday night.

1-900-FISH-BEER

New work and new podcast alert! A lot of my neon sign illustrations have been done primarily for my own personal projects so I was stoked when I was contacted by a client that wanted something very similar for the cover art for their new podcast.

The client and I are both boys of New York's southern tier so I swapped out the desert landscape that I usually use for these illustrations and went with that western NY landscape I know and love. Working on that sunset and landscape definitely made me feel a little homesick but, I know there are ticks galore in that tall grass so I didn't get too excited about running, arms wide open, through a field on my next visit home.

The podcast is called 1-900-FISH-BEER and it premieres on Apple podcasts and Spotify this Thursday (5/18) "Weird fishing stories that are rarely about fishing and almost never about beer" Check er out!

Welcome 2 Jonestown

Wrapped up this "Welcome 2 Jonestown" poster a few weeks ago and am finally getting around to posting it; it's been a hectic month and a half but things are calming down slightly. James Jones is back with his annual birthday celebration with several of his own projects on the 1st night at TV EYE and some friend's bands to pack out the 2nd night at THE BROADWAY of this 2-night music event. Should be a pretty wild time for fans of prog/jazz/metal mash-up.

Some details of the process below and when an event this size comes along, there are bound to be some changes with venues, line-up and just general disregard for double checking the spelling of bands names, so don't be confused by anything you read below. The image at the top is the final version with correct spelling and venues for each night.
