Preliminary Sketches

Over the last year I've had a growing desire to get back into painting on my free time so I've been gathering photos, both digital and film, of possible subjects I want to work on through the cold winter months. This is a small selection of places I'm strongly considering and some preliminary sketches.

The first two photos are from my day trip through Holbrook, AZ, a very interesting and surreal place, and the last 2 are from Rochester, NY and Durham, NC. The restaurant in Durham, NC was my cousin's place and they sadly had to close their doors due to a terminated lease back in the fall. Rumor on the street is the building will be demolished for...you guessed it, luxury apartments. I know, same old story everywhere right now. We figured we should immortalize the beloved restaurant and the building that housed it since they both will no longer exist in downtown Durham.

Left Field NYC Denim Flasher

Had the opportunity to work with Christian McCann again at LEFT FIELD NYC on another project recently. This time we put together a denim flasher for his new line of men's workwear based off the heavy duty workwear that coal miner's wore. At first we shot for a sort of homage to the classic advertising illustration for menswear in the 50's/60's but then moved into a more serious tone for the illustration. Had a blast looking through all the old illustrations from the golden age of advertising illustration and creating my own version of that. The line is now available with my flasher attached. Check it out HERE.

Fellow Barber sign painting

Got another chance to try my luck at some sign painting for Fellow Barber in the Chelsea Market. Fun and easy assignment and it was rad to work out in the public for a few hours. Thanks again to my friend Justin for hooking it up and William at Fellow Barber.

Some other stuff I'm working on at the moment. More from these two later.

Effigy Collective

I think I'm in the clear to talk about this now so here's the deal; Some of my old buddies from Ithaca, NY have been hard at work getting some recipes together and are almost ready to launch their very own brewery, EFFIGY BREWING. They've asked me, and another good friend, ARLO CHAPPLE to help contribute to look of the brand. So far I've done some sample labels for the Little Death Saison and The Jitters. Give their website a look, buy a shirt, and hopefully you'll be able to try some of their hard work soon.

The Vans x Homegrown anniversary special

I had the honor of working on a pretty special project for my friends skate shop in Ithaca, NY a few months ago. The 10 year anniversary of his shop, Homegrown,  is coming up this fall and Vans approached him about doing a t-shirt to commemorate this occasion and he reached out to me to do the illustration for it. It was a lot of fun to illustrate the skatepark I spent a great deal of time at when I was younger and include little nods to its flooding issues and a friends favorite pair of shoes. If you want one of these bad boys ya gotta get to Ithaca, go to Homegrown, buy a pair of Vans and hope the limited supply hasn't run out yet. Big thanks to Andrew and Joe for this opportunity.

A whole mess of thinking on paper has been included for your viewing pleasure.
