Happy to report that this bad boy was chosen to be included in the American Illustration 40 Archives. Thank you to AI and this year's judges.

Wild Times at The Drive-In

New one in honor of the holiday I make the most illustrations about and the Elmira Drive-In, and just drive-ins in general. I miss the days of hanging out there and watching some b-grade, and sometimes top shelf, horror double feature. And some probably fondly recall going there to make out with someone for hours. 

This was originally intended to be a straight forward landscape painting but I couldn't resist adding all this mayhem. The drive-in is a mash up of several looks that they've had over the years. There are some nods to favorite films of mine and then just general nonsense that I associate with the genres. Detail pics below.

 

Mount Thingmore

I missed getting this posted before President's Day but a day behind can still be considered timely in this case, I think. I've decided that we need to revamp Mount Rushmore in honor of a very important event that occurred in my life on President's Day when I was about 10 years old: My first viewing of John Carpenter's The Thing. So, here is my proposal for the iconic monument's new look, 4 key figures involved in making what is easily one of my favorite movies of all-time. From left to right we've got John Carpenter, Kurt Russell, Rob Bottin and Ennio Morricone.  We may even need to consider adding a fifth head to honor Keith David. Him and Kurt Russell share, what has to be, one of the most discussed and analyzed endings in horror movie history.
