Soul Clap & Dance-Off 17th Anniversary Bash

The 17th anniversary bash for the Soul Clap & Dance-Off is upon us, folks! A big aspect of this project, outside of the party turning 17 this year, was that this also marks the 10th year that I have been doing this gig. It was a pretty wild feeling to wrap up the 47th poster in this series and think back to the first one I ever did; It's pretty weird and a little embarrassing for me. And you'll all get to see it up close and personal soon enough..wink wink.

The poster went through quite a few revisions and eventually it was decided that using a previous likeness that I put together for Joe Bataan's Elsewhere show in 2018 was worthy of a 2nd treatment, just with an updated setting and a redraw of Joe so I could see where I've maybe made some improvements.

The big bash goes off on Friday, March 22nd so get those tix while you can!

PMS & THE MOOD SWINGS

I've been sitting on this one for almost a year now but, the time has finally come for the big announcement: The PMS & THE MOOD SWINGS album is being released JUNE 1st on BURGER RECORDS!!! I loved working on this piece, not only because I know these people but, I love Coney Island, and putting these 2 things together was a dream come true. This is the time first time I've been able to illustrate almost every aspect of the album art and it was a lot of fun to tie this whole thing together. Scroll on down for some process shots and I'll have some photos of the finished product soon. Order your vinyl or cassette RIGHT HERE!!! Big Thanks to Lenaya and everyone else in the band and to Burger Records.

Soul Clap & Dance-Off with Joe Bataan

We have reached chapter 4 in the Elsewhere and Soul Clap & Dance-Off saga. Joe Bataan and his crew will be gracing us with their presence for this one on April 21st. Took a little from the Subway Joe and Gypsy Woman album covers as inspiration on this one. Ya know, I spend a good chunk of time trying to get these likenesses and poses down of the performers but, I've really been diggin these line drawings of the dancers in the background. I don't spend a lot of time on them and I like their loose look and feel. I'm always struggling with my need to control all aspects of the image and attempts to create some loose and wonky parts so, these posters always feel like a step in the direction I want to head.

Had to take this one on the road so here we are spread out on one of my mom's sewing tables. Actually fell right into a groove and was pretty productive outside of my comfort zone.

The Haunted Hop!

New poster I cooked up for Jonathan Toubin and Kid Congo Powers's Haunted Hop tour kicking off on October 25th in Chicago. We decided very early on that since Kid Congo had been a member of The Cramps, that doing a homage to one of their album covers, and possibly one of the most iconic in the history of music, was the perfect direction. Check HERE for all their tour dates. All the highs, lows, ups and downs of the whole dang process lay below. Huge THANKS again to Jonathan Toubin!

Sketch Dump

Made some Full Moon Fever inspired portraits of Tom Petty for my friend. He requested it be that time frame in Petty's career.

Remember this guy? Tryin' to make some coffee cups with it. Sketchin out some stuff right now. Hopefully have something tangible in a few months.

Those little guys in the left corner will, hopefully, if all goes according to plan, be waiting for you at the bottom of your cup.

R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman. Bummed this guy is gone.

Rumblefish.

Johnny Suede. Not a great movie but, I still love it. After I saw it, I couldn't get this song Nick Cave sings out of my head. If you haven't seen it, it's worth sitting through once.

Classic Hopper.

I Can't Quit You Blogger

So, I decided to come back to blogger. I'm still using my Tumblr, but I thought it'd be really neat to give myself another thing to do so that I can drive myself crazy even faster. I honestly started to feel like I had abandoned a child, or forgot my little brother at the grocery store. Damn you internet! Here are some recent pictures I have made.

Skateboard graphic I recently did for Black Sheep skate shop in Columbus, Ohio.

I swear I haven't become this cynical about skateboarding. I still love it. I think I still have some years ahead of me before I trade in my time that I used to skate for time on the bar stool.

Two different ways I chose to pay homage to my favorite horror movie of all time. Yea, you read that right. I can guarantee that no horror movie in the future will impress me as much as An American Werewolf in London does. And even if it does, I won't admit it.
